Brian Wilcox. Kennebec River ~ Winter Series no. 9
getting lost is the prelude to being found
really getting lost and being found is a seamless movement in Life
An acquaintance wrote to me of a book I had read decades prior, J. B. Phillips' Your God Is Too Small. I had posted online a rating of it. She spoke of reading it many years before, too. The book had been a corrective to our fundamentalist religion. We had been in the Christian faith, but within it in different but alike authoritarian, dogmatic sects. She spoke of our having a like background religiously and of the blessing that we had received of getting out of that rigid religion and having continued a spiritual path and growth.
I replied to her, with the following, and share it here, for I see it to posit wisdom for anyone who leaves a spiritual path and adopts another way of living a sacred life...
Yes, and possibly our paths are enriched, for we did experience that we came out of and coming out we take the best of it with us, or it takes us with it. Presently, at this age, I am appreciating more the good of that past, seeing more the harmfulness in it, realizing amid it was a lot of truth, relatively tainted in relativism I would not recommend to anyone. Yet, also, it provided a grounding, at least for me, somewhere to move from. I wonder about persons who have nowhere to move from, and wonder if they have anywhere then to move to. I don't know - I seem to know almost nothing now; I used to be an expert.
I ended the paragraph with a smiley face sign, for I was being humorous in the conclusion. But even that closing sentence shares important insight, for no one is a spiritual expert; we know very little of the Mystery we live within together. The wise being is one who knows he or she does not know.

A thousand dreams you gave to me You held me high, you held me high And all those years you guided me So I could find my way
How long your love had sheltered me You held me high, you held me high A harbour holding back the sea So I could find my way
So let me give this dream to you Upon another shore So let me give this dream to you Each night and ever more
Yet only time keeps us apart You held me high, you held me high You’re in the shadows of my heart So I can find my way
You held me high, you held me high So let me give this dream to you Upon another shore So let me give this dream to you Each night and ever more
A thousand dreams you gave to me You held me high, you held me high And all those years you guided me So I could find my way So I could find my way
